Live in awe

Did you see?

It just snowed for a few hours, large flakes that settled and accumulated to two or three inches. Snow-globe effect.

Lovely.

We took the dogs for a walk and I brought along my Olympus EM1 MkII and the 12-40 Pro lens. Both are weather sealed to an extent so shooting in the falling snow wasn’t going to be an issue. Right tool for the job.

It’s been a little while since I’ve been out with any camera and so I was eager to make the most of this short expedition. Too eager!

An athlete warms up before a sprint, they loosen the tension in their muscles prepare them to perform. Now a photographer isn’t an athlete (yes, an athlete can be a photographer) but he or she still needs to warm up to the visual stimuli all around them or they won’t see anything.

I forgot that. Fortunately, my wife is ever observant on her walks with the dogs and she pointed out the ‘wire heart’ that you would likely not ever notice except for the fact the snow outlined the shape. She wasn’t putting any pressure on herself to see things she could take a picture of, she was just observing and seeing.

I should remember that! And if you haven’t guessed, it’s a life skill and not just for photography. Figure out where you can use it.

So this one’s for you, darling.
